The ‘Birthplace of Minnesota’ has long been home to the National Guard 1st Brigade, now 34th Infantry, serving in wars all the way back to the Civil War.  With expanding and changing functions, this 18-acre military facility nestled amongst residential neighborhoods required the preservation of existing trees for visual screening and preservation of existing wetlands.  An extension of a city street and parking was provided adjacent to this 79,500 SF facility.  Planned expansion for an attached future City Fire Hall building provides a joined space for two agencies with shared mission values to cooperatively work together.
